IBM Refurbished Switches

We stock refurbished IBM switches for SAN and data center networks, mostly IBM-branded Brocade Fibre Channel switches and directors, along with Ethernet switch modules for IBM BladeCenter and RackSwitch top-of-rack switches. Whether you're replacing a failed switch, adding ports to a SAN fabric, or sourcing an exact model for an older environment, we have refurbished IBM switches ready to ship. If you need a model that isn't listed, our team can often source it by machine type and model.

Every refurbished switch is inspected and tested before shipping under our ISO 9001-certified quality management system. Orders ship from our warehouse in Denmark — with express delivery, your order will be delivered within 1–2 working days.

Refurbished IBM Fibre Channel SAN Switches

IBM's Fibre Channel switches, often searched as fiber switches or SAN switches, are Brocade-built and sold under IBM machine types such as 2498 and 8960. Most are sold with a set number of active ports, and the rest are unlocked with Ports on Demand licenses, so check how many ports are active as well as how many the switch has. Match the fabric speed and the other switches in your SAN before ordering.

IBM SAN Switch Licenses and Rails

Many IBM SAN switches include licensed features on top of the active port count, such as Extended Fabric, Trunking, or an Enterprise bundle, and these are part of the product description. Check that the licenses match what your fabric uses, since a switch without Trunking or Extended Fabric will not provide those functions. Some switches ship without rails, so check the rail kit if you are installing into a rack.

Refurbished IBM SAN Directors and Blades

For larger fabrics, we stock IBM SAN directors and their port blades, including 32Gb blades, along with power supplies for the chassis. Blades are specific to the director model and chassis generation, so match the chassis before ordering a blade.

Refurbished IBM Ethernet and BladeCenter Switches

For Ethernet, we stock IBM RackSwitch top-of-rack switches and Ethernet switch modules for IBM BladeCenter chassis. BladeCenter switch modules are specific to the chassis and bay, so they can't be used as standalone switches.

Refurbished Legacy IBM SAN Switches

For older SAN fabrics, we stock the IBM 2005 and 2109 series, including SAN routers, alongside early 2498 models. These switches are long past end of sale, and a refurbished switch is often the only practical way to replace a failed one without rebuilding the fabric.

IBM Switch Part Numbers

IBM switches are listed by machine type and model, such as 2498-F48 or 8960-P64, and by FRU part numbers. Variants of the same model differ in active ports and licensed features, so each is listed separately, and the model, port count, and licenses together identify the exact product. Search by any of them in our Parts Finder, or use our Network Configurator to check compatible hardware for your environment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a used and a refurbished IBM switch? A used switch is sold as-is, without testing. Every switch we sell is refurbished: inspected, tested, and covered by a 1-year warranty. We're an independent refurbisher, not part of IBM's own programs.

What does "active ports" mean on an IBM SAN switch? Only the licensed ports can be used. A 48-port switch sold with 24 active ports has 24 usable ports, so choose the active port count you need.

Are IBM SAN switches the same as Brocade switches? IBM-branded SAN switches are built by Brocade and use standard Fibre Channel protocols, so they work with other Fibre Channel infrastructure when fabric speed and firmware versions are compatible.

How much does a refurbished IBM switch cost? Prices are listed on each product and depend on the model, active ports, and licensed features. Refurbished IBM switches typically cost up to 80% less than new.

What's the warranty on a refurbished IBM switch? Every refurbished IBM switch comes with a 1-year warranty.
