Lenovo Refurbished Tape Drives

We stock refurbished Lenovo tape drives for LTO backup and archiving, including library drive sleds for TS3100 and TS3200 tape libraries, internal half-high drives for System x and ThinkSystem servers, and Ultrium data and cleaning cartridges.

Whether you're replacing a failed drive, adding a drive to an existing library, or expanding tape capacity, we have refurbished Lenovo tape drives ready to ship. If you need a drive that isn't listed, our team can often source it by part number or library model.

Refurbished Lenovo Library Drives

Library drives come as sleds that fit a specific tape library, such as the TS3100 and TS3200. They are matched to the library model, LTO generation, and interface, Fibre Channel or SAS, and half-high is the common format. The same TS3100/TS3200 drive is often sold under both an IBM machine type (3573) and a Lenovo machine type (6173), so a drive listed under either number can be the same part.

Refurbished Lenovo Internal LTO Drives

For System x and ThinkSystem servers, we stock internal half-high LTO drives with a SAS interface. An internal tape drive typically connects to a SAS HBA rather than a RAID adapter, so check that your server has a compatible HBA and a free drive bay before ordering.

Refurbished Lenovo Tape Libraries and Accessories

For Lenovo and IBM tape libraries, we stock accessories such as additional power supplies, control path failover licenses, and LC-LC Fibre Channel cables. Library accessories are specific to the library model, so confirm the library before ordering.

Lenovo LTO Tape Cartridges

For backup tape, we stock Ultrium data cartridges, cleaning cartridges, and cartridge labels. The cartridge generation must match your drives, so check which LTO generation your drive reads and writes before ordering.

LTO Generation Compatibility

LTO generation decides which cartridges a drive can use. Drives up to LTO-7 read two generations back and write one generation back, while LTO-8 and later drives read and write only one generation back. For example, an LTO-8 drive can't read LTO-6 cartridges. If you need to restore from older tapes, keep a drive of the right generation rather than assuming a newer one will read them.

Lenovo Tape Drive Part Numbers

Lenovo tape drives carry FRU part numbers, such as 00NA111 or 00WF769, and are also listed by library machine type and model, for example 6173-ATP1. The same drive is often sold under several numbers, so match the library model along with the LTO generation and interface. Search by any of them in our Parts Finder, or use our Storage Configurator to check compatible hardware for your system.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a used and a refurbished Lenovo tape drive? A used drive is sold as-is, without testing. Every drive we sell is refurbished: inspected, tested, and covered by a 1-year warranty. We're an independent refurbisher, not part of Lenovo's own programs.

Are Lenovo tape drives the same as IBM tape drives? For the TS3100 and TS3200 libraries, often yes. IBM sold these drives under machine type 3573, and the same drives appear under Lenovo's 6173 numbers. Match the FRU number or library model rather than the brand name.

Will a newer LTO drive read my existing tapes? It depends on the generation. Drives up to LTO-7 read two generations back, and LTO-8 and later drives read only one generation back, so check the generation before replacing a drive you still restore from.

How much does a refurbished Lenovo LTO tape drive cost? Prices are listed on each product and depend on the LTO generation, interface, and whether it is a library drive. Refurbished Lenovo tape drives typically cost up to 80% less than new.

What's the warranty on a refurbished Lenovo tape drive? Every refurbished Lenovo tape drive comes with a 1-year warranty.
