NetApp Refurbished Controllers

Replace a failed NetApp controller fast with a refurbished controller module, tested and ready to ship. The range covers controllers for FAS and AFF systems, E-Series and EF-Series controllers, and the IOM modules that run your disk shelves. Search by NetApp part number or by system model to find an exact match.

Every controller is inspected and tested before shipping under our ISO 9001-certified quality management system. Orders ship from our warehouse in Denmark — with express delivery, your order will be delivered within 1–2 working days.

Refurbished NetApp FAS and AFF Controllers

FAS and AFF systems run in HA pairs, so when one controller fails, its partner takes over and keeps data online while you swap the module. Many models share the same controller hardware.

Entry systems like the AFF A220, FAS2720, FAS2750, and C190 use a common controller, and so do the FAS8200 and AFF A300. The range also covers the FAS8020 to FAS8080 generation and newer systems like the AFF A250.

Replacing a controller usually means moving the boot media, memory, and I/O cards from the old module into the new one, so your system comes back up on the same ONTAP version. If any of those parts have failed too, see NetApp memory and boot media and NetApp network cards.

Refurbished NetApp E-Series Controllers

E-Series and EF-Series systems run SANtricity on dual controllers for block storage. Controllers come in different cache sizes and with different host interface cards. In a duplex system, both controllers need the same cache size and host interface configuration, so order by part number to match the controller already installed. The range spans older E2600 and E5500 systems up to the E5700, EF570, and E2800.

NetApp IOM Shelf Modules

Every NetApp disk shelf has two IOM modules that connect the drives to the controllers and keep a redundant path if one fails. IOM6 modules run 6Gb SAS in DS2246, DS4246, and DS4486 shelves, while IOM12 and IOM12-B modules run 12Gb SAS in newer shelves like the DS212C and DS224C. For older DS14 Fibre Channel shelves, ESH4 modules are available too.

A failed IOM can usually be swapped without taking the shelf offline, as long as the second module is healthy. For drives to go in your shelves, see refurbished NetApp hard drives.

FAQ

Can I replace a NetApp controller without downtime?
In an HA pair, usually yes. The partner controller takes over storage and data access while you replace the failed module, then hands it back once the new controller is up.

Do I need to match the ONTAP version on a replacement controller?
In most FAS and AFF systems, you move the boot media from the old controller to the new one, so the replacement starts on your existing ONTAP version. If the boot media has failed too, order a new one with the controller.

Do both E-Series controllers have to match?
Yes. In a duplex E-Series system, both controllers need the same cache size and host interface cards. Send us the part number of your working controller and we’ll match it.

Can you source a NetApp controller that’s out of stock?
Often, yes. Send us the NetApp part number or system model, and we’ll check availability and lead time with our supplier network. For other parts, see all refurbished NetApp storage.
