NetApp FC Adapters for Initiator and Target Use
NetApp FC adapters do two different jobs. In target mode, they serve LUNs to hosts on your SAN. In initiator mode, they connect the controller to back-end storage, tape, or a MetroCluster fabric. Many NetApp FC adapters can be switched between the two in ONTAP, so one card can cover several roles. Before you order, check which slots and adapters your controller supports in NetApp’s Hardware Universe or our NetApp Parts Finder.
Can’t Find Your Part Number?
Stock on NetApp adapters changes often, and many part numbers come in and out of stock. Send us the part number and quantity, and we’ll check availability and lead time with our supplier network. For Ethernet and mezzanine cards, see NetApp network cards, or browse all refurbished NetApp storage.
FAQ
Will a refurbished NetApp FC adapter work in my controller?
Yes, as long as the part number is supported for your controller model and slot. Match the part number on your current adapter, or send us your controller model, and we’ll confirm the right card.
Can I use a 16Gb FC adapter on a slower SAN?
Usually, yes. 16Gb Fibre Channel adapters normally negotiate down to 8Gb and 4Gb. Check that your SFPs and switch ports match the speed you plan to run.
Do NetApp FC adapters come with SFPs?
It depends on the part number. Check the product listing, or ask us if you need SFPs included with your adapter.
