IBM Refurbished Server Motherboards
We stock refurbished IBM motherboards for IBM Power Systems, from older POWER5 and POWER6 systems through POWER9. Replacing a failed motherboard is often the fastest way to bring a Power server back into production without replacing the whole system. Whether you're repairing an existing server or sourcing an exact part for an older system, we have refurbished IBM motherboards ready to ship. If you need a motherboard that isn't listed, our team can often source it by part number or CCIN.
Every refurbished motherboard is inspected and tested before shipping under our ISO 9001-certified quality management system. Orders ship from our warehouse in Denmark — with express delivery, your order will be delivered within 1–2 working days.

Refurbished IBM POWER9 and POWER8 System Backplanes
On Power Systems, the motherboard is called a system backplane or system board, and it carries the processor sockets, memory slots, and PCIe slots. POWER9 and POWER8 backplanes are specific to the machine type and model, for example 8408-44E, and a 2U and a 4U version of the same system family are different parts. Match the CCIN and machine type from your system rather than the generation alone.
Refurbished IBM POWER7 and Older System Backplanes
For POWER7 and POWER7+ systems, including dual-processor Power 7xx models, we stock refurbished system backplanes and system chassis assemblies. On older POWER5 and POWER6 systems the processors are part of the board, so the core count and clock speed are part of the part description, and replacing the board replaces the processors. These systems are long past end of sale, and a refurbished board is often the only practical way to repair them.
Refurbished IBM I/O Backplanes and System Cards
Alongside the main system backplane, we stock I/O backplanes and system I/O port cards, which provide I/O connectivity in the system. These are identified by their own CCIN and are specific to the system model, so they are not interchangeable with the main backplane. We also stock motherboards for IBM Hardware Management Consoles (HMC).
Replacing an IBM System Backplane
A Power system stores its identity and configuration in vital product data (VPD), so check how your model handles VPD during a backplane replacement. IBM's service documentation for your machine type covers the steps. Confirm the machine type and model and match the CCIN, because boards with similar descriptions are not interchangeable.
IBM System Backplane Part Numbers
IBM identifies a system backplane by a CCIN, such as 2CC6, and by FRU part numbers, such as 00E0874 or 00E2748. The same CCIN is often sold under several FRU numbers, so the CCIN and the machine type and model, for example 8408-44E, are the safest way to match one. Search by any of them in our Parts Finder, or use our Server Configurator to check compatible hardware for your system.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between a used and a refurbished IBM motherboard? A used motherboard is sold as-is, without testing. Every motherboard we sell is refurbished: inspected, tested, and covered by a 1-year warranty. We're an independent refurbisher, not part of IBM's own programs.
Is an IBM system backplane the same as a motherboard? Yes. IBM calls the motherboard in Power Systems a system backplane or system board, and parts are listed under both names.
How do I find the right IBM system backplane? Start with your machine type and model, then match the CCIN. Several FRU numbers can share the same CCIN, so contact our team with your model and we'll confirm the right part.
How much does a refurbished IBM motherboard cost? Prices are listed on each product and depend on the system model and generation. Refurbished IBM motherboards typically cost up to 80% less than new.
What's the warranty on a refurbished IBM motherboard? Every refurbished IBM motherboard comes with a 1-year warranty.
