Refurbished NetApp Cluster Switches

In a clustered ONTAP system, controllers talk to each other over a dedicated cluster interconnect. The CN1610 is NetApp’s 16-port 10GbE switch for that network, and it’s still running in plenty of FAS clusters. Smaller NAE-series gigabit switches cover the management network alongside it.

NetApp only supports specific switch models on the cluster network, configured with NetApp’s Reference Configuration File (RCF). A refurbished NetApp cluster switch is the simplest way to replace a failed unit or add a node without redesigning the network.

Refurbished NetApp Fibre Channel SAN Switches

NetApp-branded Fibre Channel switches connect hosts to FAS and E-Series storage and form the fabric in MetroCluster FC configurations. The range includes 8Gb and 16Gb models, such as the 300, 6505, and 6510. Several of them ship with only some of their ports active, and more ports can be enabled with port licenses.

Order by NetApp part number to make sure the switch matches the firmware and configuration your fabric expects.

NetApp FibreBridge for MetroCluster

FibreBridge bridges connect SAS disk shelves to a Fibre Channel fabric, which is how MetroCluster FC systems reach storage at both sites. The 6500N pairs 6Gb SAS with 8Gb FC, while the 7500N supports 12Gb SAS and 16Gb FC. Replacing a failed bridge with the same model keeps your MetroCluster configuration supported.

FAQ

Do I need a NetApp-branded switch for my cluster network?
Yes. NetApp only supports specific switch models with NetApp’s Reference Configuration File on the cluster interconnect. A refurbished NetApp switch like the CN1610 keeps your cluster in a supported configuration.

Can I enable more ports on a NetApp FC switch?
Often, yes. Several models ship with some ports active and support more through port licenses. Check the part number, and ask us if you need a specific port count.

Will a refurbished switch or bridge work in my MetroCluster?
Yes, as long as the model and firmware match what NetApp supports for your ONTAP version. Check NetApp’s Hardware Universe or send us your configuration, and we’ll confirm the right part before you order.

Can you source a NetApp switch that’s out of stock?
Often, yes. Send us the NetApp part number and quantity, and we’ll check availability and lead time with our supplier network.
